SO excited to say that after years and years of driving by the gates and not being able to enter or see more than a few seconds of rooftops and white buildings through bushes, Zachary and I visited The Augusta National for the first time yesterday, thanks to my Daddy and his super sweet wedding gift, to us! I don’t know that I will ever be able to put into words just how incredible our day was.
The gates opened at 7:30 AM. We arrived around 8:30 AM. We were planning to get there earlier but ya know, morning people…WE ARE NOT. The air was crisp but so comfortable, the azalea bushes and dogwood trees were putting off the sweetest smell and the grass was still marked with dew as the sun began it’s rise on the course. I have never seen anything as beautiful as The National was yesterday morning. We could not have asked for a better start to the day.
We walked and explored for a bit before heading into the brand new Pro Shop which was one word, immaculate. In all of it’s glory, we roamed for about 45 minutes before I finally picked out one perfectly overpriced sweatshirt. I may have to take out a loan to pay it off. We’ll see. So worth it, ya’ll. We left the Pro Shop and headed towards our first look of the huge Leader Board which turned out to be so worthy of it’s reputation. We stood around, took some pictures for other people, had them take pictures of us, basked in all of the glory and then started walking some more.
I am not sure how I had never heard of just how picture perfect the backside of The Club House is but WOAH it was dreamy. So much green, so much white, so much black and beautiful all over. My mouth was pretty much wide open in awe, ALL day. We took a break mid morning and grabbed a snack for Zachary. Really expected the food to be pricey but it was not at all. Very cheap compared to food at other sporting events. I think Zach paid maybe $4.00 for a decently sized club sandwich and a lemonade. Not bad! The concessions were WAY cooler and nicer than I expected they would be. So many options, so much organization, no lines, fresh food, yummy smells. Was imagining walk up food truck type things. Silly me. How could I expect less of The National?
The temperature was around 72 at this point in our day so we sat outside around what I am calling “the hub” and enjoyed the “couldn’t have been any more perfect” weather. I think it was during this time that I realized what my favorite part of the day would be. No cell phones. I admit, I felt so odd not having my phone with me at first and thought I was going to think about it all day but as the day went on, everything changed. Not one single person was looking down. Kids, families, couples were all looking at, talking with and laughing with one another. We were all completely focused on enjoying the grounds and the competition and each other and I have to say that I wish more thing’s were made to be cell phone free because I truly felt like I had entered another world. A perfect world.
For the remainder of our day, we watched competition, revisited some of the spots we had seen earlier in the morning, enjoyed each other’s company and took tons of pictures. TONS OF PICTURES. No way I could share them all here on the blog but plan to make a Facebook album soon enough.
I am a Disney girl, all the way. Disney World is my favorite place on earth. It’s my home. But, yesterday, I became an Augusta National girl, too. I now have two favorite place’s on earth and I want everyone to see what I saw. I know it’s not exactly easy or affordable to get into The Augusta National, so I am not here to brag or convince you to go. BUT, I have to say, if you are ever given the opportunity to enter, golf fan or not, TAKE IT AND RUN!! Call me crazy but I will remember yesterday as one of the best day’s of my life, so far. It was that impressive.
Lastly, you know i’m going to give you outfit details! Everything linked below! As always, if you have ANY questions on fit, quality or just in general, message me!!
